In 2010 Bertus and Barbara Pretorius established the company Africa Awaits and started off with a small, tented accommodation facility of 4 rooms that was rented. As the years went by the company progressed, changed and evolved from the rented tented accommodation to the large, luxurious eleven chalets that guests can enjoy today. The road was never easy or bump-free and a tremendous amount of work and effort was needed to progress from the small facility to the one currently. The lodge was constructed in 2015 on the family owned farm, Wendelstein, 15km outside of Gobabis. The farm was a big stepping stone for the company as the lodge could produce its own vegetables, eggs, meat and solar power electricity. Even though it is just 15km outside of Gobabis the lodge has a peaceful atmosphere, unique in its kind with farm animals and wildlife roaming about.
